by session on October 13th, 2009

Here is some news from around the horn:

  • Lou Martin, master Monroe mandolin disciple and Rounder Record solo artist has announced the publication of 2 mandolin instruction books entitled, “Twenty Studies in the First Position for Bluegrass Mandolinists, Op. 5″ and “Fifteen Bluegrass Variations on “Red Haired Boy”, Op. 8″ which focus on learning standard notation and bluegrass improvisation techniques respecitively. For more information and to purchase, check out Lou’s Site. [Mandolin Cafe]
  • Carlo Aonzo, whom I had the pleasure of studying under at Cape Cod Mandolin Camp a few years ago, has opened up registration for the 10th Annual Carlo Aonzo Mandolin Workshop in New York City, March 18-21, 2010. Highly Recommended. [Mandolin Cafe]
  • Colorado Case Company is selling pink cases that support breast cancer research during the month of October. I’m looking for one to fit my Collins. And yes, pink is a perfectly manly color for your next case. [Colorado Case]
  • The Del McCoury Band has a new LP coming out Family Circle and allowed The Bluegrass Blog to stream the whole thing. Give it a listen! You can also get autographed versions direct from DMB’s site.
  • Fantastic article on Jewish Bluegrass or “Jewgrass” [Smithsonian]
